WHAT IS INBOUND

Universiti Putra Malaysia’s study abroad and exchange programme is designed to encourage students from universities abroad to do short-term academic-related stints at UPM.

UPM is a multidisciplinary university that has 83-years of history, and located strategically within the Multimedia Super Corridor, which is only 10 minutes’ drive to Putrajaya and 30 minutes’ drive to the Kuala Lumpur City Centre. As one of the largest universities in Malaysia, UPM is also a key-player in contributing to the growth of learned and skilled human capital in the nation. UPM presently has more than 26,000 students enrolled in its 78 bachelor, 7 diploma and 47 postgraduate programmes at the Masters and PhD levels (with more than 250 fields of studies). Except for the diploma programmes which are offered exclusively at UPM’s branch campus in Bintulu, Sarawak all other courses are offered at the main campus in Serdang, Selangor.

The exchange programs in UPM began in late 1990’s with only a few students participated in the program mainly to conduct their practical training and research in the field of science and technology such as Veterinary Medicine. Now, UPM has more than 180 Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) to foster student exchange programmes with universities from all over the world, and each year, hundreds of international students come to UPM from different parts of the

TYPES OF STUDENT MOBILITY PROGRAMMES AT UPM

In order to meet the individuals wishes and requirements of many international students, academics and non-academics from various countries, UPM offers various types of exchange programmes varying in duration from a couple of weeks to one or two semsters and with/without credit transfer options. UPM offers the following types of Study Abroad and Exchange programmes;

          Exchange programme  (1 or 2 semester(s)
          Short-term programme (2 weeks or more)
          Internship programme (2 weeks to 6 months)
          Industrial Training / Research (2 weeks or more)
          Summer programme (2 weeks or more)
          Visit (less than 2 weeks)

Apart from that, UPM also participates in other study abroad and exchange programme, such as ASEAN International Mobility for Students (AIMS), Asean University Network (AUN), Kokugakuin Short-Term Exchange Programme (K-Step), Global Korean Scholarship (GKS), Asian Association of Agricultural Colleges and Universities (AAACU), AUN/SEED-Net – the Southeast Asia Engineering Education Development Network, MEVLANA Exchange Programme Protocol  (Turkey) and ERASMUS MUNDUS (MAHEVA, MYEULINK, MOVER, ERAMUS MUNDUS ACTION 1, ERAMUS MUNDUS ACTION 2, cLiNK).

SEMESTER IN UPM

UPM practiced the semester system, with two semesters for every academic session. Every semester consists of fourteen weeks of study and students will be evaluated via on-going evaluation inclusive of the final examination.

Semester 1  - SEPTEMBER
                                                                  
Lecture = 6 weeks
Mid Sem break = 1 week
Lecture = 8 weeks
Revision = Week 1 week
Final Exam = 2 weeks
Semester Break = 5 weeks


Semester 2     -  FEBRUARY                                                              

Lecture = 7 weeks
Mid sem Break =  1 week
Lecture = 7 weeks
Revision Week = 1 week
Final Exam = 2 weeks
Semester Break = 10 weeks


RULES & REGULATIONS

The participating students are abide to the rules and regulations at the host university and home university, and failing to abide them could result in the immediate termination of their participation in the program.

SHORT - TERM PROGRAMME

We also offer Specially - design short term programmes for international students. The programme will be tailor made according to our International's counterparts requirements and objectives. Currently, we have received many groupsunder this programme which focus on English LAnguage Study, CUltural, research attachment, and sit - in class at relevant faculties (e.g: Soka University, Kazakh National Technical University, Hunan Women University,Kunming University of Science & Technology, Sultan Qaboos University, Kazakh National Agrarian University).
