Latar belakang

The Enzyme and Microbial Technology Research Centre (EMTech), Universiti Putra Malaysia was established in 2012 as a natural progression in the development of a highly successful research group.  The research group was first established in 1986 and has developed into a model integrated research group.  EMTech now comprises a group of established and experienced Professors supported by young and enthusiastic researchers. Extensive work has been conducted on isolation and identification of microorganisms producing enzymes that are useful for industrial applications – namely lipases, proteases and amylases. From this point on, molecular biology techniques were adopted to enhance enzyme yield and properties,  Projects towards deeper understanding of the functions and structures of the enzymes to decipher their hidden potentials were undertaken, where computer modeling and simulation are followed by molecular modification  all validated by biophysical approaches. Research is undertaken on the development of optimal biocatalytic   processes as well as product development, be it on the enzyme itself or the products of catalysis. Naturally, EMTech aspires to undertake collaborative research on the latest technology and product development which would eventually contribute to national   economy.

The EMTECH currently consists of 16 principal researchers and 80 post graduates students (22 PhDs and 58 MSCs).

This group has achieved many in term of outputs; PhD and Masters graduates who are now not only all over the country but also all over the world as well as various research grants, papers published in many forms, patents, awards and books.
