Students from the Department of Cell and Molecular Biology had recently organised the annual Mycelmol event on 25 February 2018 under the peaceful, relaxing canopies of the forest at Forest Research Institute Malaysia (FRIM). The organisers for Mycelmol ’18 included Year 2 students of the B.Sc Cell and Molecular Biology with Honours, led by Programme Director Mr. Muhd Shuhaily Mohd Jasmany and advised by Dr. Mas Jaffri Masarudin. Mycelmol ’18 had garnered healthy participation from the department; attended by 106 students (Year 1-4), 8 Academic Staffs, and 1 Deparment Staff. The event was officiated by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Adam Leow Thean Chor, Head of Deparment of Cell and Molecular Biology. Under the theme ‘It’s all about back to basics’, Mycelmol ’18 was organised under the aim fostering healthy relationships between students and department staff, as well as to inculcate team-spirit, self-respect, and self- confidence amongst the students. The full-day event was filled with numerous activities which included an explorace-based scavenger hunt over 5 stations, containing various old-school plays such as Musang Berjanggut, Neraca, and Pensel Bertali.
The organising committee would like to take this opportunity and space to express their gratitude to all who have committed their time and efforts towards organisation and execution of the event, as well as to the Faculty of Biotechnology and Biomolecular Science and UPM for their support. The Mycelmol ’18 event was a successful endeavour that embodies the Department’s vision towards producing holistic and versatile graduates through innovative routes of learning, a key stride in the National Malaysian Higher Education Blueprint 2015-2025.
