On 10th December 2017, students and staff of department of Cell and Molecular Biology, Faculty of Biotechnology and Biomolecular Sciences, UPM organized a community program entitled “Science Camp Fundraiser”. This event was co-oganized with Tech Outreach Malaysia, an NGO that works with underprivileged kids and women. The main aim of this event was to provide an avenue for children and teenagers to have hands on experience with science experiments while having fun. Indirectly, this program will also stimulate and enhance interest in Science amongst the young ones. It is an open event to the public. The event started at 9.00 am and ended at 4 pm. There were 150 visitors who had visited the stations. In general, the activities were divided into two stations which were the science and recreational stations. Under the science station, there were 15 fun-filled science activities. Seven activities such as clown/magic show, henna tattoos, face painting, haunted house and mystery box/fear factor were prepared under the recreational station. Each of these activities was priced between RM3-RM10. In order to participate in these activities, visitors were required to pay in the form of vouchers. Voucher booklets were sold during the event. There were also a number of sales booths for pre-loved items as well as food and drinks. Proceeds from this program were donated to the Keningau underprivileged Kids Education Fund established by Tech Outreach Malaysia.
