The event above was held in conjunction with the opening ceremony of the 7^th ASEAN PLUS THREE JUNIOR SCIENCE ODYSSEY 2018 (APTJSO) on the 30^th of July 2018. APTJSO is an annual science camp for students between the ages of 13-15. This year, the event was organized by the Minister of the Ministry of Energy, Science, Technology, Environment and Climate Change (MESTECC), ASM and YSN-ASM. The event was officiated by YB. Puan Yeo Bee Yin, Minister of MESTECC in Dewan Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah, Universiti Putra Malaysia.

Three of the faculty members were involved in the YSN-ASM science showcase during the opening ceremony. They were Dr. Chia Suet Lin, Eddie (Department of Microbiology) who is working on developing genetically modified Newcastle disease virus for the treatment of cancer; Dr. Mas Jaffri Masarudin (Department of Cell and Molecular Biology) who is working on nanoparticles for drug delivery systems; and Dr. Siti Sarah Othman (Department of Cell and Molecular Biology) who is working on developing bovine spray vaccine. 

Besides, Dr. Adelene Song Ai Lian, Dr. Mohd Termizi Yusof, and Puan Sharipah Samah from the Department of Microbiology were also invited to set up a station on microbiology for outreach program. In addition to the participants of the APTJSO, approximately 350 students from various schools were also present at this event.
